The Reverse Diabetes MD protocol is a physician-supervised plan to reverse the damaged metabolism behind overweight, obesity, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. It is built to reverse the disease, not just manage the numbers, and it starts with a visit at our Woodson Rd office.
Who is the protocol for?
Anyone on the path a damaged metabolism takes: overweight, then obesity, then prediabetes, then type 2 diabetes. You do not need a diagnosis to start. The earlier you start, the less there is to undo, which is why we say the best way to reverse diabetes is to not get it in the first place.
Why does it need a physician?
The problem is complex, so most plans combine more than one tool or treatment type. And some medicines become dangerous when you change how many carbohydrates you eat. If you take any of these, do not change your diet without medical supervision:
- Medicines that lower blood glucose: insulin, SGLT2 medicines such as Invokana, Farxiga, Xigduo and Jardiance, and other glucose-lowering drugs such as Victoza.
- Blood pressure medicines such as clonidine, ramipril, Lasix, lisinopril and other ACE inhibitors, and atenolol and other beta blockers.
- Mental health medicines such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety medicines and mood stabilizers.
Blood sugar and blood pressure can fall quickly once eating changes. The doses of these medicines have to come down with them, on a schedule your physician sets.
